Frequently asked questions

What is TexasHomeBills data?

Free, original statistics on Texas retail electricity plans, published by TexasHomeBills™. Every day we collect every plan listed on Power to Choose (1,132 listings on Oct 13, 2026) and read each plan’s Electricity Facts Label (EFL), then publish data products: advertised price vs real cost, fees and bill credits, listing accuracy, the Texas Real Rate Index and daily price changes, plus U.S. electricity prices by state and Texas large-load (data center) demand from the EIA and ERCOT. TexasHomeBills is independent and not endorsed by the PUCT.

How many Texas electricity plan listings differ from their EFL?

On Oct 13, 2026, 71 of 1,132 Power to Choose listings (6.3%) showed a verified difference from the plan’s own EFL: 60 in price, 16 in contract term and 1 in cancellation fee (6 listings differ in more than one). Counting English and Spanish listings of the same product once, that is 52 of 984 products. Every case is listed with the EFL line quoted.

How much more do bill-credit plans really cost?

On Oct 13, 2026, the median gap between estimated real cost and advertised 1,000 kWh price was 8.3¢/kWh for the 60 bill-credit plans in the default rankings, compared with 0.0¢ for the other 674 plans. This is our estimate for a home averaging 1,000 kWh a month on a typical Texas seasonal usage profile, before taxes: a bill credit is missed in months when usage is below its threshold.
