We compared the average price at 1,000 kWh a month that Power to Choose lists, using the median of fixed-rate plans that are not prepaid or time-of-use. Overall, that is 233 plans at 100% renewable (median 13.2¢ per kWh) and 735 other plans (median 13.4¢).

Lubbock Power & Light 19 14.0¢ 81 13.6¢

In some areas the 100% renewable median is lower and in others higher, and the gaps are small. The medians do not show that going renewable raises or lowers your price.

What this does not tell you

  • The listed price is not the annual cost. It is one usage level and can include bill credits; see how bill credits work.
  • "100% renewable" is the provider's claim on the listing. The grid supplies everyone's power from the same mix, so the label describes how the provider sources or matches energy for the plan. The Electricity Facts Label explains how to read the details.
  • Rank on your usage. Our CenterPoint comparison and the other utility pages rank plans by estimated annual cost, and how we rank explains the method.
